A consortium of Bay Area Jewish institutions and a national museum invite community members to come together on Sunday, April 7, for They Did Not Stand Idly By: Yom HaShoah and the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, an afternoon program marking Holocaust Remembrance Day. The free program will be held at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (JCCSF), 3200 California St. It is co-presented by the JCCSF, Jewish Family and Children’s Services’ Holocaust Center, Lehrhaus Judaica, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the San Francisco branch of the Anti-Defamation League of the Central Pacific Region, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM).

Highlights include study sessions and a panel discussion with preeminent Jewish history and Holocaust studies scholars, a youth art project for students in grades 5 – 8, and a reading of names of victims of the Shoah. Programs begin at 1:30 pm and last throughout the afternoon. Participants are welcome to attend any, or all, events.

The activities will culminate in a 5:00 pm service featuring live music, a short video about the establishment of Holocaust commemoration in Northern California, and an address by Dr. William F. Meinecke of the USHMM. The event’s organizers and partners wish to acknowledge the many schools and institutions participating in the 5:00 pm services, including a broad cross section of San Francisco synagogues and Kol Hadov, the Jewish a cappella group of the University of California, Berkeley.
