Last October deadly wildfires ignited across the North Bay. Within hours of the crisis JFCS began providing immediate services to families, emotional support, emergency financial assistance, child care, food, mattresses, and vouchers for clothing and fuel.
In the days and months that have followed JFCS has tailored services to meet the changing needs of the community, providing case management, insurance workshops, assistance with living expenses, help locating temporary housing, and counseling to 1,200 individuals.

On the one-year anniversary of the deadliest and costliest wildfires in California history the region is still very much in transition, especially for those who were already struggling paycheck to paycheck before the natural disaster.
“2018 has been a year like no other. Many of the families and individuals who lost their homes and businesses are still at the beginning of their recovery. Some are settled in rentals and starting to rebuild, others are worried about how they will find long-term housing, and many wonder what will happen to them with their FEMA housing runs out,” says Diana Klein, JFCS’ Sonoma County Regional Director, who has led the agency’s day-to-day efforts. She adds, “The fires have changed the community forever and there is so much more recovery and healing to do.”
JFCS remains an important resource to the community and is committed to continuing to provide long-lasting support and direct services to the many families, adults, and children whose lives will be affected for the months/years to come.
