Human Resources Generalist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist is a confidential position and is a member of the JFCS Human Resources team. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist serves as a trusted partner, providing expert guidance on HR policies and administration, as well as hands-on employee engagement support. This role involved handling confidential administrative and business matters that require discretion, professionalism, and efficiency.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Salary Range: $90,000-$95,000 (depending on experience)
- Employment Type: full-time, exempt position with benefits

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the first point of contact for JFCS employees, providing employment support and ensuring concerns are either resolved or escalated to the Sr. HR Generalist and the Sr. HR Director as needed. Foster open and effective communication with employees, managers and supervisors, co-workers and clients while maintaining a helpful, supportive, and knowledgeable approach – even when dealing with complex situations with a high degree of uncertainty

Collaborate with the Jr. HR Generalist and the HR Coordinator to design and facilitate an engaging and effective onboarding process for new hires. Lead the monthly benefits orientation for new employees

Work closely with the Sr. HR Generalist to manage share benefits administration and the open enrollment process. Respond to inquiries regarding employment, benefits eligibility and coverage status. Communicate benefit events to all employees in a timely and clear manner

Serve as the primary administrator for JFCS’ AbsencePro, managing the leave of absence process for the agency. Address employee inquiries regarding leaves of absence and facilitate communication between Payroll, HR, and JFCS’ leave of absence administrator (AbsencePro)

Partner with the HR Operations Team to ensure all employment-related documents including offer letters, contracts, policy acknowledgements, and compliance forms, are accurately drafted, thoroughly reviewed, and distributed to employees in a timely manner

Oversee HRIS data management, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. Validate employee demographics, payroll data, and maintain position coding with the HRIS system

Drive the digitization of employment-related documents, ensuring easy access, effective tracking, retrieval and compliance with recordkeeping policies

Generate comprehensive HR reports and analyses using HRIS and other software. Compile statistical data, prepare key management reports, and provide recommendations to support organizational development and regulatory compliance

Stay current on federal, state, and local labor laws, ensuring compliance with employment regulations and maintaining expertise in basic employment practices
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required

PHR or SHRM-CP certification is highly desired

Minimum of 3 years of HR generalist experience, preferably in a non-profit environment

Demonstrated knowledge of HR policies, compliance requirements, and risk management, including benefits administration, leave of absence and disability accommodation management, employee relations, discrimination, harassment, onboarding and offboarding processes, timekeeping and records management, etc

Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws

Ability to identify compliance risks and ensure organizational adherence to employment regulations

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)

Prior experience using HRIS systems and other HR database software

Strong ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and develop HR solutions

Ability to travel as needed across JFCS service regions for HR-related activities
