Warm Wishes at Passover
A special thank-you to Joyce Newstat and Susan Lowenberg, who recently established the Seymour Newstat Endowment Fund, This thoughtful gift supports a beautiful annual seder for Holocaust survivors who attend JFCS’ Café by the Bay, a program that offers them educational, cultural, and social opportunities.

“Susan and I thought it most fitting to honor the memory of my dad, who was a Holocaust survivor, at Passover, since it was his favorite holiday,” says Joyce, a member of JFCS’ Board of Directors who also chairs the JFCS Holocaust Center’s Council of Children of Survivors, of which her spouse, Susan, is also a member. “During the last years of his life,” continues Joyce, “he loved attending Café by the Bay programs. He was always a quiet man, but the Café really allowed him to open up about his experiences during the Holocaust and to make new friends as well.”

It was during this time that Seymour shared his story of resilience, courage, and survival with local teens enrolled in the Next Chapter Project, a JFCS Holocaust Center initiative that connects survivors to high school students interested in learning more about the Holocaust. “We are grateful that my father had all of these enriching experiences with fellow survivors, as well as with younger generations who could pass along his stories.”

Seymour Newstat died in 2010 at 87, but his legacy lives on through his fund, to which Joyce, Susan, and other friends and loved ones can always make gifts.  Join Joyce and Susan and make Passover a memorable experience for members of our community. Here are a some of ways to help:
