The fall is busy for many of us—work, school, and preparations for the Jewish New Year. It’s also a hectic time for Amy Darling, a JFCS friend on the South Peninsula. But Amy always makes a commitment to JFCS at the High Holidays, rallying family and friends to assemble and deliver Rosh Hashanah foods to older JFCS clients in need. It’s a tradition she strongly believes in. “I grew up visiting nursing homes with my grandmother,” she says. “I now take my 7-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter with me, and I encourage as many people in my community to participate with their families.”
The easiest way to get involved in the High Holiday food delivery effort is by contacting the JFCS’ volunteer coordinators at the office nearest you.
“If it weren’t for the JFCS food bags at Rosh Hashanah, Chanukah, and Passover, I wouldn’t get to observe the holidays,” says Mrs. W., a Holocaust survivor and longtime JFCS client who can no longer get out on her own. “I always look forward to the delivery from a very nice family with two little boys. I get a little lonely at the holidays, and they cheer me up.”
JFCS also works closely with our partners at Jewish schools and synagogues throughout the Bay Area to ensure that all who need food at the High Holidays receive it. The food and toiletries collected during our High Holiday Food Drive benefit hundreds of clients who use the agency’s Food Pantries, which are located in each of our five regions.
In addition to holiday outreach and food drives, many JFCS friends find it most convenient to provide monetary gifts to the agency. You can donate to JFCS programs you would most like to support, including JFCS’ Food Pantry and holiday outreach, here.
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated, especially recurring monthly gifts that help ensure that no one in our community go hungry at any time of year.
JFCS appreciates all that our friends do at the holidays and throughout the year to enhance the lives of our clients.
