On Sunday, September 22, JFCS welcomed volunteers of all ages to our offices in Marin County to help assemble care packages for Rosh Hashanah. Volunteers packed over 375 gift bags with hand-written cards, treats, and holiday essentials for people in need.  

One of the day’s highlights was the participation of five-year-old Sasha Green from Marin. His parents, Alana and Steve Green, and older brother, Zev, are longtime JFCS volunteers who have been bringing Sasha to volunteer at JFCS events since he was two years old. They clearly raised Sasha to embody the values of a mensch—someone who actively strives to make the world a better place for others. 

This year, Sasha showed a natural sense of responsibility and eagerness. He rolled up his sleeves and went table to table, collecting greeting cards and ensuring each gift bag was perfectly packed. He even took it upon himself to carry the bags downstairs when they were complete. Sasha’s dedication and enthusiasm made him an indispensable assistant and an inspiration to the rest of the volunteers.  

We are grateful to all the attendees, especially young helpers like Sasha who remind us that the spirit of Tikkum Olam—the Jewish commitment to repairing the world—can be fostered at any age. We look forward to many more years of service with Sasha and his family!
