Anita and Ronald z’l Wornick sat for this interview in 2014. May his memory be for a blessing.

Over many years, Ronald and Anita Wornick have touched the worlds of art, medical research, education, and Jewish philanthropy through gifts that have made a difference in the lives of many. But few of their gifts have meant as much to them personally as the Harry & Florence Wornick Endowment Fund for Youth Loans, which they established at JFCS as a tribute to Ron’s parents. The fund, which supports the education of promising students, recently received a boost with a significant new gift from the Wornicks.

“My reverence for my father is beyond containment,” says Ron, a pioneer in the food industry, speaking of his stepped-up commitment to the JFCS named fund. “He was a self-taught Russian Jewish immigrant who learned English by reading the newspapers and worked hard as a carpenter his entire life. He tried to retire many times, but he was happier working.”

What also brought joy to Harry Wornick’s life was helping friends, family, and neighbors in need through loans. His generous nature and values are behind the Wornick Endowment Fund. “My father had a deep respect for education,” says Ron, who holds degrees from Tufts and MIT. “He was a warm man whose flame continues to inspire me.” Now his name and his legacy continue. Through the opportunities his fund creates in the lives of countless others from generation to generation, his family is making our community stronger—one life at a time.
