An outstanding student with a knack for business, Mark Khavkin was accepted into MBA programs at Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, and Northwestern. As pleased as he was by his choices, he remained concerned about financing his education in a way that would allow him to go to school full-time without falling into debt. Fortunately, he knew about JFCS’ Educational Loan and Grants Program.
JFCS provided Mark with a generous deferred-interest loan for his two years at Harvard, where he excelled academically. “The MBA program was an amazing, transformative experience,” says Mark, who now works at eBay. “It developed me personally and professionally. Thanks to the loan, I was able to enjoy greater opportunities. It’s wonderful to have a community program to help students and business people with dreams and goals.”
Mark was no stranger to the many ways that JFCS improves people’s lives. In 1994, the agency’s Emigre Program helped resettle his family after they arrived from Russia, finding them a place to live, offering financial assistance, and providing volunteers who served as mentors and English tutors. “JFCS helped immensely,” Mark says.
Today, as a successful professional, Mark gives back to the community that helped him. He knows first-hand how important a caring touch can be.
