Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) will be paying tribute to a group of 20-, 30-, and 40-somethings making significant contributions to the vitality of the Jewish community when the agency holds its 14th Annual Emigre Community Gala on Sat., Feb.7, at San Francisco’s Westin St. Francis Hotel . These younger individuals, participants in a JFCS affiliate group called RJeneration, are part of a large and growing number of Russian-speaking Jews who, as volunteers and donors, are ensuring the continuity of the Jewish community for generations to come.
“RJeneration members, their friends, and their families play an integral role in supporting programs that feed the hungry, take care of our seniors, and make sure that our children get the help they need to grow up to be healthy and strong,” said JFCS Executive Director, Dr. Anita Friedman. “We are forever grateful for the generous amount of time and resources they provide to help everyone in our community.”
RJeneration has also served as a positive force in building community and religious and cultural identify among younger Russian-speaking Jews, most of whom had no opportunity to learn about their heritage and history in their places of birth.
The gala, commencing with an hors d’oeuvres and wine reception at 6:30 pm, is equal parts celebration and fundraiser: a way of celebrating community achievements in the community and an important event at which to raise funds to help people in need here and in Israel.
Other highlights at this year’s Emigre Community Gala include a performance by Eurovision pop star Irene Rosenfeld and music from Golem!, a klezmer-rock band, and Timokha’s Angels Show Band. In addition to world-class entertainment and exceptional European-style food and beverages, the gala includes a raffle, whose grand prize is a week at a luxury beachfront apartment in Haifa. To purchase raffle tickets, which are $25 apiece or five for $100, call 415-449-1219 or email [email protected].
Individual tickets to the gala are $325. Tickets for guests 35 years old and younger are $195. To receive more information or to reserve a ticket, call 415-449-1256 or email [email protected]. Tickets for the event can also be purchased at JFCS’ website—www.jfcs.org.
