Jewish Family & Children's Services of San Francisco is seeking a qualified volunteer to provide occasional back-up, on-call delivery/driving for one of it's home-delivered meal programs. This program provides vital nourishment to individuals living with chronic illnesses and disabilities. The volunteer position that is available is to bring meals/groceries to people throughout the city of San Francisco when the regular driver is not available. Again, this volunteer position is on an as-needed basis and does require someone with flexibility and morning availability.
Specific Duties:
- Pick up meals from designated sites.
- Drive specified delivery route and bring meals/groceries to 6-8 clients per route.
- Follow all the guidelines for delivery as discussed in the volunteer orientation.
Qualifications:
- Volunteer must be experienced and/or comfortable working with a variety of individuals in a culturally diverse environment.
- Reliable, safe, insured, personal vehicle to use. Will drive approximately 20-25 miles per shift. Reimbursement is provided for mileage.
- Ability to climb several flights of stairs and carry up to 20# while doing so.
- Volunteer must have a good working knowledge of the city streets and/or the ability to read maps and directions.
- Volunteer must be able to navigate Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels and apartments.
- Ability to communicate well with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

Café by the Bay is a place where Holocaust Survivors gather at weekly social events not only to discuss Holocaust issues, but also to enjoy each other's company, live music, and educational programs.
Cafe by the Bay takes place weekly on Thursdays from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at JFCS' Miriam Schultz Grunfeld Professional Building located at 2150 Post Street in San Francisco.
Holocaust Survivors Program Volunteer Opportunities:
The Cafe by the Bay program meets every Thursday from 2-3:30 PM. Some of our Survivors need drivers to help them get to and from the weekly program. Drivers are invited to stay for the program or drop-off and pick up seniors. Current valid, clean CA driver?s license, insurance required. Especiallly needed for those seniors living in the Richmond, Sunset and Stonestown area.
Lunch & Learn is an educational and entertaining lunch program for Café participants. It?s held on the last Friday of every month at JFCS. Lunch is from 12-2 and help with set-up, greeting guests, serving a catered lunch, schmoozing and clean-up is needed. Volunteers are asked to arrive an hour early for set-up and to help with clean up after the event.
